Hi Gals.... I propose that we give the book club a hiatus. I am having trouble completing the readings.... I continually find other books that catch my eye, and spring is fast on the way! What do you gals say????
I propose to send out my book that I chose because I have already purchased it and it's pretty darn cool. It will just be for you gals to enjoy.... it's not a regular book. And then, Maggie will keep up the BLOG so that we can all stay in touch and share what cool things we are reading at the time. Let's see if that works.... if folks fall by the wayside, well, so be it. It's been fun.... let's give it a break and we can always start again later.
I have loved getting to know you all, and that can keep right on keepin' on! All the best, Linda

Dang...I love our book club. That said, I agree with Linda. These days "life" takes up much of our time and commitments can become a drag. Let's NOT lose touch with our inner bookworms; let's post now and then when we run across a book we love and want to share with our special book club friends. I have really enjoyed this book club and hope we can start up again when the world quits wobbling on its axis. Special thanks to Linda for her books and, finally, thank you to Maggie for starting and maintaining this blog. Happy Reading!
I just had this conversation with my mom the other day! :) I think it will be fun for us to keep posting about what we are reading... like a book club that just reads different books. I'm waiting for the new Wally Lamb book to come available at the library (as it's not in paperback I won't shell out the bucks for hard cover)... it's in high demand so I may wait awhile.
Right now I'm reading Suite Francaise, but I've also picked up a book I borrowed from Kerry by Chuck Palahniuk. I do NOT recommend his books (though Kerry will, but don't listen to her... tee hee!!). He is VERY demented in his writing, very graphic... fills your mind with images you could have gone your whole life without reading. Why am I reading his book, then, you ask? Because THIS book is a "travel memoir", of sorts. It's more like a walking tour of Portland, OR. Chuck P. lived in Portland (and still might)... he moved there in 1981 (lived on Barbur Blvd, mom! By the Fred Meyer!!) and that was when we lived there. He educates you on the nuances and not-so-popular sight-seeing stops that make up glorious Portlandia. It's been a treat to read. Again, he dabbles on the darkest side of the psyche, so there may be some surprises awaiting (yay. not.) but overall it's fun to read about The Church of Elvis (been married there TWICE!), Powell's Books, and Piss-You (Portland State U.)...
So that's what I'm reading. :)

I am completely onboard with the hiatus! I am right in the middle (well actually the tail end but I'm trying to tell myself the middle) of applying to graduate school. Much like all of you I also have a long long list of books that I would like to read. Not that I don't enjoy reading books that are different from what I normally read but I craze some of my "usual reads" as well!
Right now I have tentatively started Geek Love-a novel about a Carnival Family! I haven't been able to read too much, again because of the grad school apps. But would love to hear about all the glorious books you are all reading!
I just posted my passions, favorite reads and my take on Suite Francaise. I don't want to quit the book club, but reading the three posts so far it looks like we are not stopping the blog spot so this would be o.k. with me.
A good book does almost solve everything.
